Journal 3

In the story "Hills Like White Elephants" is is made clear that there are three characters interacting with each other. The first is Jig who seems to live in Madrid. Next a man who is identified as an American, and the bartender who is serving them cold drinks to overcome the scorching Spanish air. This story takes place at a train station in Madrid. I realized after reading the story that the American and Jig were a happy couple that feel in love but with one small problem, they lived in different counties. The whole story Jig and the man were talking about how he was about to leave for America and if it were at all possible that he could stay with her, especially because Jig was about to have an operation. Based on the events of the story, I feel that the American man visited Spain with no intent of love but inescapably found Jig and fell for her. I think that at the end of the story the American went to find the train but realized he loved Jig and decided to stay with her instead.
