Journal 3

After reading Hemingway's "Hills Like White Elephants", I was still unclear what the exact point of the story was. There were three characters, Jig(the woman), the american man, and the bartender. The atmosphere was quite tense as the man and woman were having a serious conversation about some sort of operation. The man said that he wouldn't mind it but the woman was questioning him, and in a way, was testing his love. I'm assuming that he was on his way somewhere with all of his bags packed and was ready to take the next train out. I think him not leaving to get on the train signified his status in the relationship. Her relief to see him back showed me that whatever they were arguing about was over and that he wasn't going anywhere.
