Journal 3

"Hills Like White Elephants" by Ernest Hemingway is a very short, but rather confusing story. The two main characters were a man and a woman who seemed to be in a relationship with one another. They were at a train station waiting for their train to arrive. It was very hot and they loved to drink. The man seemed very loving of his woman, and didn't want to force her to do anything she did not want to do. The woman on the other hand seemed to only want to do things because her man wanted them. I never really caught on to the metaphor the author was trying to get across, but my guess is it was about having sex or a baby or something of that matter. The point of this story was very hazy and I could not catch on to it.
